The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) has filled the positions of Director of Remote Sensing, GIS & Mapping and Land Information Management Officer. The new Director of Remote Sensing, GIS & Mapping is Prof. Dr.-Ing. John Bosco Kyalo Kiema from Kenya and the Land Information Management
Officer is Mr. Charles Simon Luhega from Tanzania. These appointments were made after a successful recruitment exercise which took place during the Governing Council meeting held in November, 2015.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kiema is joining RCMRD from University of Nairobi where he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Geospatial and Space Technology. He has over 25 years experience in teaching, research and consultancy at University level in Kenya, with slightly under 3 years spent in Rwanda. Additionally, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kiema is the Executive Secretary in the Eastern Africa Land Administration Network (EALAN).
On the other hand, Mr. Luhega, a Master of Science in Geoinformatics holder from the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), Netherlands is joining the Centre from Ardhi University- Tanzania. He has over 20 years experience in the field and has previously worked at Tanzania’s Ministry of Lands and Human Settlement among other organizations.
