RCMRD participated in the European Agency organized Living Planet Symposium 2016 held in Prague, Czech Republic from 9-13th May, 2016. The symposium brought together over 2,000 participants from all over the world to discuss and exchange experiences in the latest state of the art applications of satellite earth observations to provide
solutions to global challenges such as food security, climate change, disaster risk reduction, water resources management and urban settlements.
RCMRD was represented by its Director General, Dr. Hussein Farah who took part in three important sessions. The first was on mainstreaming the use of earth observation for international development where space agencies, international financial institutions and development agencies discussed strategies for promoting the use of earth observation in all stages of development such as planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation. The other sessions were on land cover mapping and water resources management in Africa, where he was the chairperson.
