Every four years, global leaders, experts, and advocates gather at the IUCN World Conservation Congress to shape the future of conservation and sustainable development.
This year, RCMRD is proud to participate as one of the five African Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Technical and Scientific Cooperation Support Centres. We will highlight our role in supporting countries and raising awareness of the services and value we provide to our constituents.
Established by the Conference of the Parties at its fifteenth meeting, the sub-regional Technical and Scientific Cooperation Support Centres foster collaboration among Parties to harness science, technology, and innovation in support of the Convention on Biological Diversity and its Protocols, including the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
As a “one-stop service hub”, we have dedicated our efforts to strengthening the capacity of Member States and private sector institutions to use Earth Observation data and geospatial technologies to generate tools and insights for environmental planning, natural resource monitoring, and assessment.
We also play a vital role in biodiversity and ecosystem management, serving as a hub for research, innovation, and technology.
In addition, RCMRD hosts the Regional Centre of Excellence (RCoE) for Biodiversity, Forests, and Seascape Ecosystems Management, a programme jointly implemented with CIFOR-ICRAF and funded by the European Union. Through this initiative, we work with governments, environmental agencies, NGOs, and partners to strengthen the protection and sustainable use of forests, biodiversity, and seascapes.
Together, we are powering transformative conservation, shaping solutions for people, nature, and a sustainable future.
