Joint UN-SPIDER/RCMRD/RSA Workshop on Disaster Management Closes in Khartoum SUDAN - May 9, 2013

This joint initiative on capacity building towards sustainable Disaster Management using Earth Obsrvation Data was promoted by UN-SPIDER and executed by RCMRD in collaboration with Remote Sensing Authority (RSA) of Sudan was held from May 6, 2013 to May 9, 2013 at the University of Khartoum.
Participants were from Sudanese Ministries of Agriculture; Humanitarian Affairs; Interior-Civil Defense; Health; as well as Agencies of Meteorology; Information; UNDP and UN-WFP

 

ICPAC/UNITAR Liaison on Disaster Risk Reduction Visits RCMRD - March 19, 2013

The IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) a specialized Institution of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), UNITAR Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT) and RCMRD are jointly implementing project on Disaster Risk Reduction funded by Norwegian Government. The objective of the project is to enhance the capacity of IGAD Centres to develop the use/application of geospatial technologies for DRR.
The expected outputs from the project include trained and knowledgeable IGAD scientists.

Within this framework the ICPAC/UNITAR Liaison Messer Robert W. Nilson was at RCMRD to engage with staff on upcoming activities slated for next month.

CODIST III Meeting Opens at UNECA, Addis Ababa Ethiopia - March 12, 2013

The Third Session of the Committee on Development Information Science and Technology (CODIST III) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) with the theme Measuring the Innovation Environment opened today with a series of workshops key amongst them on ICT for Disaster Risk Management at which RCMRD Director General Dr. Hussein Farah made key note address.

The sessions at the CODIST III explore strategies and tools for measuring and reporting on innovation performance for an effective evaluation of outcomes including feedback to policy making.. This being the last session in this series of meetings,  meeting was also to take stock of the UNECA’s assistance programmes to member states in formulation and implementation of policies and strategies in ICT, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), Geo-Information as well as Libraries and Information Services.
