The final endorsements for the Africa Monitoring of the Environment for Sustainable Development Initiative were made a during the week commencing May 2, 2010 and project was officially launched a fortnight after at the RCMRD. The main purpose of the initiative is to improve decision making-processes in the fields of environmental resource and environmental risk management in Africa by increasing the information management capacity of African regional and national institutions mandated for environment related sectors, and facilitating access to Africa-wide environmental information derived from earth observation technologies thus allowing “ Informed decision”.
This signature marks the official commencement of a three years implementation project, up to the 10th  May 2013

The Malawi Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development in partnership with RCMRD successfully hosted a workshop in Lilongwe, Malawi April 12, 2010 on ‘Role of Geo-Information in National Development’ several presentations were made by experts from RCMRD and the Lands Office in Lilongwe headed by the Surveyor General Daniel Gondwe. In attendance were top policy makers from various Ministries of the Malawi Government as well as other stakeholders.
