RCMRD

Delegation from RCMRD lead by the Director General RCMRD Dr. Hussein Farah paid a visit to Lesotho to meet with the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs Ms. Mapitso Panyane who also represents Lesotho on the RCMRD Governing Council. Issues discussed included provision of services to Lesotho by RCMRD for the current year.
RCMRD will provide two training programmes in applied GIS and Remote Sensing as well as on Advanced Surveying for the Departments of Land Management, Physical Planning and Land Administration. RCMRD will also support updating of topographic maps of Lesotho.

Dr. Farah accompanied by other technical staff from RCMRD made courtesy call to Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Meraka Institute hosted by Dr. Lee Annamlai of the CAM Earth Observation Science & IT Thema.
Discussions focused on partnerships to be promoted jointly by CSIR and RCMRD.

A Technical team from RCMRD led by the Director General, Dr. Hussein Farah facilitated a workshop in Pretoria (RSA) comprising senior technical staff from various departments, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Provincial Surveyor Generals from the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform on the Role of RCMRD in the Promotion and Use of Geo-Information in National Development. Content included Geo-Information for Natural Resources mapping and Management; AFREF and SDI; Early Warning and Disaster Management; and SERVIR Africa Initiative.
The workshop was opened by the Chief Surveyor General Mmuso Riba representing Director General, Department of Rural Development & Land Reform, Messer Petrus Mduduzi Shabane.
