RCMRD participated in the Partnership for Resilience and Economic Growth in Kenya (PREG) joint work plan meeting in Garissa between July 2 and 4, 2018.

The meeting provided an opportunity for PREG and other partners to engage in a participatory process of critical reflection, analysis and collective action for better resilience programming in the Garissa County.

The role of RCMRD's SERVIR-E&SA Project was to improve the capacity of PREG partners (who are USAID funded) in environmental management and resilience to climate change through integrating Earth Observation information and geospatial technologies into development decision-making in Garissa County.

Other Objectives

Objectives included: increasing the ability of PREG partners to apply and adapt their awareness and skills to strengthen collaboration; improve the understanding among PREG partners of various collaboration dynamics and knowledge on how to address them; provide a platform for PREG partners to share results, lessons learned and opportunities for strengthening collaborative programing and to to review, refine and develop current work plans for next implementation period.

Key Lessons Learnt
Integrate more on the common agenda for PREG that included participation of members in the joint work plan meeting and joint coordination model. The activity is headed by Kenya Rapid and assisted by Livestock Market Systems (Mercy Corps). Reinforcement on mutual activities which included structuring, layering and integration of partner activities geared towards resilience. In addition, emphasis was on participation of partners in monthly work plan meeting at the county and national level.

Others were shared measurement that included development of thematic areas within each cluster for measurement, joint monitoring visits, data management platform and standardization of PREG progams under specific clusters and continuous communication whose activities included establishment of focal points, database of partners, participation in county Sector Government (CSG) forums and development of PREG site briefs. Backbone support comprising activities that included formation of technical committees, training of PREG partners on leadership skills and establishment of co-team support secretariat.

Emerging Opportunities
Support PREG partners using the RCMRD/SERVIR-E&SA services in weather and climate, and agriculture and food security as well as disseminating the tools from RCMRD/SERVIR-E&SA services namely range land monitoring tool and crop condition monitor to PREG partners.
