The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) has joined the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), the operational arm of the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism, hosted by the UN Environment Programme and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The Centre (CTCN), promotes the accelerated transfer of environmentally sound technologies for low carbon and climate resilient development at the request of developing countries. They provide technology solutions, capacity building and advice on policy, legal and regulatory frameworks tailored to the needs of individual countries by harnessing the expertise of a global network of technology companies and institutions.
In a communique to RCMRD Director General Dr. Emmanuel Nkurunziza, Rose Mwebaza Director, CTCN notified Dr. Nkurunziza that RCMRD's membership was approved. She said, “I look forward to working in close collaboration with RCMRD serving the interests of the developing countries by providing high quality and diverse expertise in the transfer of climate technologies.”
She also said that CTCN members are invited to play a meaningful role in information sharing and capacity building; providing technical assistance in response to country requests; and participating in outreach and networking activities.
