In commemoration of the International Day of Charity, staff of the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) visited Thomas Barnardo House (Kenya Children’s Home (KCH)).
They donated assorted goods including assorted clothes and books, diapers, bar soaps, cooking oil, sugar, rice, maize meal and wheat flour.
The staff also presented a cash donation to the home as part of RCMRD’s contribution to attainment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are grouped into six critical areas: people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership. These goals have the potential to transform our lives and our planet by providing the framework needed for philanthropic institutions to enable all people to contribute to the betterment of our world.
In recognition of the role of charity in alleviating humanitarian crises and human suffering within and among nations, as well as of the efforts of charitable organizations and individuals, including the work of Mother Teresa, the General Assembly of the United Nations in its resolution A/RES/67/105PDF document designated the 5th of September, the anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa, as the International Day of Charity.
Acknowledging the gesture from RCMRD, Mr. Collins Oywera the Chief Administrator of Thomas Barnado House, noted: “Your generous support to our home cannot be taken for granted. For sure, you are honored and highly appreciated here. Without your friendship and the friendship of others like you, we would not be able to carry on.”
He added, “So again, on behalf of the children and the Barnardo fraternity, please accept our sincere thanks”.
