Risk Management System for Plant Pests and Diseases Project
To respond to increasing pest and disease outbreaks, the Risk Management System for Plant Pests and Diseases project supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation promotes innovative and sustainable surveillance and early warning to help farmers address the challenges of climate change-induced plant pest and disease infestations.
The project has built a platform that aims to promote data-driven, evidence-based decision-making. The system provides users with a repository for plant pest and disease surveillance data, visualization, on-the-fly computation, analytics, situation maps, and other knowledge products.
The Risk Management System for Plant Pest and Disease project aims to map Fall Armyworm, Tuta absoluta, Fruit flies, Maize Lethal Necrosis Disease (MLND), Bacterial soft rots, and Cassava Mosaic Disease. Other plant pests that are mappable using the Integrated Multi-Pest Monitoring and Reporting Tool incude Quelea birds, African armyworm, Papaya mealybug, Parthenium, Aflatoxin, Xanthomonas Wilt and Late Blight
