Full Name of Project: Eastern Africa Forest Observatory
Abbreviation of Project Name: OFESA
The overall objective of OFESA is to strengthen existing institutions and networks in the tropical regions in their capacity to report on their mitigation actions in the forest sector in the context of REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation in developing countries). At the same time, OFESA will also contribute to assessment of adaptation/biodiversity benefits of forest coverage and sustainable forest management, for policy makers to use in their policy and strategy development.
This project supports the OFESA objective of strengthening regional forest observatories in East Africa and will provide a platform for sharing, exchanging and accessing data and information related to regional forests and REDD+. The 'regional forest observatory' will comprise two core modules:
- A regional database containing information relevant for the monitoring of regional forest cover change and for reporting in the context of REDD+; and
- A website that will make the database accessible and serve as the main interface of the regional forest observatory.
