ACHIEVEMENTS
Since
its establishment, the Centre has had different achievements
mong the most important achievements are:
Previous
1. Helped its Member States establish their
own Mapping Agencies through capacity building in collaboration
with FAO and IGAD established Early Warning System for food
security and drought monitoring in Eastern Africa in 1988.
2. Prepared various map products fir its Member States
and clients.
3. Has trained over 3000 professionals and technical
officers in Remote Sensing, GIS Surveying and Mapping form
Africa.
4. Promotion of establishment of unified African
Reference Framework (AFREF).
Recent
1. In the last one and half years the Centre
has been restructured into a new organization with a new Vision,
Mission and Objectives.
2. Has upgraded all its information technology facilities
including Internet connectivity.
3. Has entered into a memorandum of understanding
(MOU) with Institutions and Organizations to facilitate collaboration
in a diversity of activities.
4. In collaboration with Jomo Kenyatta University
of Agriculture and Technology, the Centre introduced Certificate
and Diploma Training courses in Information Technology for
high school leavers.
5. Played a major role in the successful convening
of the 2001 AfricaGis conference in Nairobi, Kenya.
